PUNISH
Miss your goal,
and it costs you.
Set a goal. Stake real money on it. Keep it and you pay nothing, ever — miss it and the stake goes to an organisation you would genuinely rather not fund.
Punish is a commitment device for Android. It is built on one uncomfortable idea: a promise you can break for free is not a promise. So the cost is real, it is chosen by you in advance, and it lands at the moment you break the goal rather than at some tidy point later.
What it actually measures
- Screen-time and website limits, read from your phone's own usage data — not guessed, and not self-reported.
- Tasks with a deadline, answered by you or checked against a proof photo.
- Calls to a number you have sworn off, cancelled before they connect.
When the app cannot see clearly enough to be sure, it charges nothing and says so. That rule is not negotiable: an unmeasured day is never a billed day.
Where the money goes
To a real registered charity, through every.org, which handles the checkout and issues your receipt. Punish never touches the money — there is no balance, no wallet, and nothing stored on your behalf. You pick the organisation when you set the goal, from a list that deliberately holds both sides of each argument.
Nothing about your phone use leaves your phone.
App usage, browsing, contacts and location are read on the device and stay there. There is no sign-up, no advertising, and no analytics — in the app or on this page. Friends is off until you turn it on, and all it stores is a display name you type yourself. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
Closed beta
Punish is in closed testing on Google Play. If you would like to try it, email the address below and you will get the opt-in link and a short note on what testing involves.
